Firstly apologies to everyone for the web problems over the last 24hours, we are now back up and running properly and I am assured that we will have no further problems.

For those of you that were unable to attend Wednesday’s meeting we officially accepted our ‘Friends’ constitution, a copy of which you can be found in the public folders section at the bottom of the web page.

In addition to this we formalised our Committee as follows:

If anyone who could not make the meeting is interested on serving on the committee please do get in touch.

We have also begun to take membership for the group. You do not have to be a member to support the group, attend public meetings or take part in the events, however it does allow us to keep you up to date more efficiently. Our revenue relies directly on donations and please be assured that all money from memberships or charitable donations goes directly into restoration projects within the gardens.

Membership costs £5 per year or £3 per year for members of associated groups like Plumstead Common Environment Group and Friends of Plumstead Gardens etc. We also offer a Business Membership at £50 per year which includes sponsor notification and links on our websites and literature.

And now to the fun part. Fundraising!

We are attempting to host our first fundraiser for the gardens. On 11th and 12th of December 2008 we will be holding ‘Carols in the Gardens’.

The events will run from 6pm to 7.30pm each evening, and are free to attend, all we ask is you bring is friends, family and some spare change for our collection buckets. You don’t even have to sing if you don’t want to, just enjoy the night. Access to the event will be from the Camdale Road entrance, please be aware that this is a residential area and as such parking is restricted (we need to respect our neighbours).

Currently as lighting is limited please bring a torch or lamp with you. We will have some candles (tea lights) available if you want to bring a jar or holder, but please be responsible with them.

You will be able to purchase hot drinks and a biscuit for 50p but please bring a mug with you (sorry but due to funds and licencing bureaucracy we cannot provide these, plus it is more environmentally practical.)

If anyone can donate their time to this we would be very grateful. If you can provide singers, instruments, or other vocal talents please email us and mark it for the attention of Sarah. If you can donate refreshments, equipment or good old fashioned labour please email us and mark it for the attention of Maria.

Next meeting and update

Following the meeting of the working party we are pleased to announce that the next public meeting for the Friends of Rockliffe Gardens Group will be held on Wednesday 19th November at 7.30pm and will be held at The Slade Community Hall, Pendrell St, London, SE18 2PJ (Please use the Library side entrance if the main doors are closed).

In the meantime visit the gardens and encourage others to as well. We are aware that due to the secluded layout in areas of the gardens, some of you feel uncomfortable visiting on your own. So we are suggesting a walkabout meet at 11am every morning. All you have to do is turn up at the gate on Camdale Road and when you feel comfortable that there are enough people in the group go ahead and enjoy the park. Go on have fun and bring a friend too.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us for the meeting last night.

We would especially like to thank Nick from the Plumstead Common Environment Group for chairing the meeting for us and all the support he has shown us.

For those of you that couldn't make it, last night produced the nominations for the working party. This now enables us to form our 'Friends Charter', and lay out the aims of the group for our next public meeting.

We had several nominations for committee members, and have nominated the following positions so far:

Secretary - Joanne Pinkney

At the next public meeting we will be taking memberships. Membership will cost a small annual fee.

We will be announcing the date of the next meeting over the weekend so keep an eye out on the site.

The date of our first meeting is set for Wednesday 29th October 2008 at the Slade Hall (attached to the library), Erindale Road.

We will be opening the doors from 7pm for coffee and a mingle; please feel free to drop in anytime between 7 and 9.30pm.

The official meeting will commence at 7.30pm, the purpose is to establish a committee and gather the views of the community.

We hope to see as many people as possible, and as usual any involvement is very welcome.

Taking back the Gardens

There seems to be a general consensus across the net that you all want something done about Rockliffe Gardens. Well now’s the chance.

We are setting up a Friends of Rockliffe Gardens Group to restore and maintain the space and we need the community to get involved.

There will be a public meeting in September (date to be confirmed) to set up a committee and take suggestions. In the meantime you can get involved and gain information, leave comments and suggestions, and post photos and videos of the Gardens in the following places: -
